We are committed to challenging all students to academic growth in each class. As a matter of course, teachers adapt teaching techniques and materials to students' needs. Under Vermont state law, we will modify instruction to meet the needs of any student, through remedial help or extra rigor, implemented by our Educational Support Team (EST). We may also schedule students to take high school courses if they are prepared to succeed there. We rely on teacher recommendation and testing to decide if students shall be placed in high school classes.
Every student's experience during their two years at Lamoille Union Middle School will include classwork, discussion, projects, research, reading assignments and homework assignments. Teachers also schedule study trips to further enhance subject matter and teamwork.
While individual teams' daily schedules vary, all students are scheduled into core academic courses within their teams: Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies and Literacy. Best practice for middle school students show that interdisciplinary study is an important part of teaching connections between concepts and subjects. All teams commit to one or more interdisciplinary units each year. All teams use our computer lab and our mobile computer labs, our library, and the support of Applied Academics courses to enhance learning opportunities.
